Facility for mentally challenged children in Maharashtra

Many of the children who reach Adoption agencies, are those that are severely challenged-mentally. The agency has none of the skills required to bring up such children and, the development of their mental health, is severely affected.

CSA sponsored one such child who was admitted into a special home for the mentally-challenged; we are very happy with the outcome. Encouraged by the results of the initiative, we explored the possibility of facilitating the setting up of a special home, where all such children from our partner agencies, can be moved.

In partnership with The Love Trust, Buldana, a facility for 10 mentally challenged children is being set up in Buldana. 6 of CSA’s member agencies in Maharashtra have amongst them, 9 such children. CSA has provided infra-structural support and will provide for the ongoing care of the children for a minimum period of 2 years. The Love Trust is awaiting the State Government clearance after which the transfers will be made.

A similar initiative has been taken up in Orissa where Basundhara will set up a facility for special needs children from Orissa agencies.
